UROG Info and Requirements

- UROG recipients must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at UAC for the year of the award period.
- The research/creative project must be completed in 1 year
- Student applicants must have a UAC faculty mentor.
- UROG recipients must present the project at the UAC symposium at the end of the following Spring Semester
- NOTE: UROG funding may not be used to pay for class work!

Exploratory Grant
Generally used to explore research topics and to further refine an area of research. These grants may be used to develop a literature review or conduct exploratory research. More info here: Exploratory Grant
Empirical Grant
Generally used to conduct research in an area of interest. These grants may be used once a research topic has been clearly defined and the student/group is ready to collect and analyze data. More info here: Empirical Grant
Creative Grant
Generally used to develop creative content through informed research practice resulting in a finished product. Creativity itself comes in many forms such as creative thinking, creative use of tools and technology, creative storytelling, creative interview techniques and creative distribution techniques. *All deadlines and announcements are on the same date each year:
Initial Submission Deadline: September 24 by 11:59pm KST
- Pre-review: results/revision requests announced by Oct 5th
- Faculty Mentor Recommendation: Due Oct 15 by 11:59pm KST
- Revisions: Due Oct 15 by 11:59pm KST (no new submissions accepted)
Awards announced: November 5
UAC Showcase: Monday, May 24, 2027
- UROG winners present their research at UAC Showcase, which will take place usually in the last week of May:
- final expense report and closing of project due by Friday December 4, 2027, 5pm at the latest.

- Use awarded funds only as indicated in the proposed budget, and with faculty approval.
- Equipment purchased belong to the UAC and must be returned and catalogued at the end of the project.
- Submit a final report within 60 days of the end of the project.
- Participate in the Annual UAC Showcase normally held in May.
- Acknowledge support from the University of Utah Asia Campus in the dissemination of the research. We suggest the following: “This work was supported by funding from the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Grants at the University of Utah Asia Campus.”
- Failure to meet these expectations will result in a forfeiture of the award.

The faculty mentor is expected to:
- Support the student in preparing the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Grant proposal. The proposal must be written by the student.
- Fill out an online recommendation form that will be sent out upon first submission of the proposal.
- Mentor the student in conducting the proposed research.
- Ensure that the student is appropriately certified as needed for Human Subject Research, Animal Research, Laboratory and other Environmental Health, HIPAA, etc.
- Support and reinforce UAC and UROG policies with respect to the grant, including deadlines and the requirement that students present their work at the annual spring showcase.
- Acknowledge support from the University of Utah Asia campus in the dissemination of the research. We suggest the following: "This work was supported by funding from the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program at the University of Utah Asia Campus awarded to [student’s name]."
