The University of Utah Asia Campus announced that it held the new student orientation for the 2023 spring semester. It is the first time in three years that the university has held an in-person commencement ceremony without masks since COVID-19.

More than 200 people attended the event, including first-year students and parents of students enrolled in seven majors: Electrical and Computer Engineering, Psychology, Communication, Film & Media Arts, Urban Ecology, Accounting, and Information Systems. The event was designed to provide students with campus tours, department and housing information, student organizations, and internship opportunities.

Kiyomi Donald, a first-year Film & Media Arts student from San Antonio, said, “I’m excited to be on campus in a new country. I’m looking forward to interacting with students from different countries.”

The University of Utah Asia Campus welcomed 161 new students this spring semester, including 34 international students from the U.S., Canada, and Japan.

Gregory C. Hill, CAO of The University of Utah Asia Campus, said, “We are excited to welcome our new students to the University of Utah family,” adding, ” We hope that the orientation event will serve as a good springboard for their vibrant campus life.”
