Dr Reazul Ahsan appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of City and Metropolitan Planning for teaching urban ecology courses at the University of Utah Asia Campus. He earned a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of South Australia in 2013. He has over 12 years’ experience in higher education in countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. He has published several scholarly articles on planning and development issues with a key focus on urban resilience and ecological suitability. Reazul is affiliated as a researcher with the Displacement Research & Action Network (DRAN), of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and working on force-displacement and ecological justice for indigenous communities.
Before joining the Dept. of City and Metropolitan Planning, Reazul was working as a research fellow at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman and Kyoto University, Japan. His key research area was coastal ecological planning and urban resilience. Reazul was also worked as a research scholar under the Malaysian Sustainable City Program for 2015-2016 session in collaboration with the department of Urban Studies and Planning, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the USA to conduct advance research on ecology and social sustainability issues in Malaysia. During his PhD (2009-2013), Reazul was appointed as a research associate and lecturer in the department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of South Australia for teaching urban land use planning and planning theories.
Reazul also worked as a professional planner with South Australian local government authority (Unley City Council) for designing zero-waste city planning to ensure ecological and environmental sustainability. He has held a faculty and researcher positions (Assistant and Associate Professor) at Khulna University Bangladesh (2003-2009). Dr Reazul received Asian Development Bank Scholarship (2001-2003), Erasmus mundus fellowship (2006-2008) and University President Scholarship (2009-2013) to conduct his Masters and PhD. He also received best research presentation award (2010 and 2012) from the University of South Australia. He has undertaken significant research on environmental planning, climate resilience, disaster risks reduction and GIS application and urban ecology and environmental sustainability practice.
