The University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC), led by Chief Administrative Officer Gregory Hill, successfully hosted a series of events from September 26 to 28, 2024, to commemorate its 10th anniversary. The celebrations were attended by over 100 distinguished guests, including students, alumni, staff, faculty, and key figures from both domestic and international communities. This milestone event provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past decade and share the vision for the future.
The festivities kicked off with a carnival on September 26, attended by more than 2,200 people, including UAC and Incheon Global Campus affiliates and local residents. The second day, September 27, featured a Dedication Ceremony for the newly installed ‘Donor Wall’ in the campus’s first-floor lobby. The Donor Wall, created to honor individuals who have contributed to the development and innovation of UAC over the past ten years, served as a symbol of gratitude and encouraged ongoing philanthropic support. Attendees paid tribute to the dedication and contributions of the donors and pledged continuous support for the campus’s future growth.
President Taylor Randall expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are grateful for the generous contributions made by many in celebration of the University of Utah Asia Campus’s 10th anniversary. Our fundraising campaign will continue, and the collected donations will be used for student scholarships, enhancing educational environments, and supporting research, all aimed at the campus’s development.”
The final day, September 28, saw the 10th Anniversary Gala at the Paradise City Hotel in Incheon, graced by over 660 attendees, including prominent figures such as Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Utah Senate President Stuart Adams, World Trade Center Utah President & CEO Jonathan Freedman, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Commissioner Won-sok Yun, President of the Korean Alumni Association Yong-gil Sung, and InBody CEO Cha Ki-chul.
In his congratulatory remarks, Governor Spencer Cox shared, “I am immensely proud to see the iconic red ‘U’ of the University of Utah here in Korea. The passion and intellectual curiosity demonstrated by the students and faculty of the Asia Campus are truly inspiring. The Asia Campus plays a vital role in showcasing Utah’s academic excellence and global capabilities.”
Jonathan Freedman, President and CEO of the World Trade Center Utah, highlighted the significance of the anniversary, stating, “This 10th anniversary marks an important milestone symbolizing the close relationship between Utah and Korea. The academic foundation established here will contribute to future business, innovation, and the cultivation of global talent. The University of Utah Asia Campus will continue to foster collaboration and growth worldwide, expanding Utah’s global influence.”
The University of Utah Asia Campus, located in Incheon’s Songdo International City, is an extension of the University of Utah. The Asia Campus offers students a global academic experience with the same curriculum and degrees as the home campus in Salt Lake City, providing students with a world-class education and American university experience. As UAC celebrates its 10th anniversary, it continues to focus on both quantitative growth and qualitative advancement to establish itself as a premier institution of American education in Korea.
