The University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC), located in Incheon, South Korea, is proud to announce the successful conclusion of its third annual Film Festival, held on April 17-18. Twelve short films produced by students from the Film & Media Arts Department were featured at the event.
The festival took place at the Megabox Songdo “Salon 1” cinema, where films were screened free of charge. The festival’s highlight was the awards ceremony on April 18 at the UAC’s KANAB Theater. Awards were distributed as follows:
- Audience Award (Megabox audience vote): ‘Furnimorphosis’ by Joshua Sayson
- Jury Prize (Best Film): ‘It Is What It Is’ by Dyne Suh
- Additional awards highlighted the diversity of student talent in various categories:
- Best Director: Dyne Suh (It Is What It Is)
- Best Performance: Minchan Ju (Solitude Syndrome)
- Best Screenplay: Dyne Suh (It Is What It Is)
- Best Production Design: Seoeun Lee (The Present)
- Best Editing: Joseph Su (Tic Tac Toe: The Anime)
- Best Cinematography: Dyne Suh (It Is What It Is)
- Best Sound: Jiwon Shin (Solitude Syndrome)
Dr. Gregory Hill, Chief Administrative Officer, and Andrew Nelson, Chair of the Department of Film and Media Arts, were in attendance, adding prestige to the festival. The event provided a unique opportunity for student filmmakers to engage directly with audiences and receive feedback.
Dustin Schmidt, Assistant Professor and organizer of the festival, commented, “Hosting the third UAC Film Festival has been a tremendous joy. It’s inspiring to see our students transform their academic knowledge into creative cinematic expressions that reflect diverse experiences and backgrounds.
