Introduction to Animation Workshop for Future Game Developers
Schedule:
Monday, July 21 - Friday, July 25
10 AM – 1 PM
Day 1: 12 Principles of Animation and Newton’s laws of motion
- Basic 3D Animation Exercises
Day 2: Character Rigging
- Build an animation control system for an existing character
Day 3: Character Animation
- Character Locomotion – walk, run, jump, etc.
Day 4: Motion Capture
- Motion Retargeting between characters
- Motion capture data editing
- Prep and export animation data for the game engine
Day 5: Game Engine Integration
- Setup animation logic and player controls in the game engine
Camp Instructor: Brian Salisbury, MFA
Brian Salisbury joined the EAE program at the University of Utah in 2015. He teaches a variety of courses in the character creation process, such as Character Design, Anatomical Figure Sculpting, 3D Character Production, Texturing, Rigging, Technical Art, and Animation. Salisbury was the Art Track Director for the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy graduate program in Interactive Entertainment at the University of Central Florida from its inception in 2005 to 2015. Prior to academic service, Brian worked in the Computer Graphics industry for 15 years. At Microsoft Game Studios in Salt Lake City, Brian served as a character production and animation lead on several projects, and art lead for Top Spin (XBOX). Other Interactive titles include Links 2004 (XBOX), Top Spin (XBOX), and Amped 3, Take 2 Interactive (Xbox 360).Brian's first major step into the entertainment arena was at Viewpoint Datalabs in Orem, Utah. While there, he served as a senior digital sculptor, providing content for film, games, broadcast, and engineering. Notable projects included building character models for big-budget films, Antz, Face Off, Godzilla, and Space Jam.
