Byoung-gyu Gong
Bio
Dr. Byoung-gyu Gong is an assistant professor of the information system at the David Eccles School of Business located in University of Utah Asia Campus. He received his doctoral degree in Education Policy and Evaluation from Arizona State University. Before joining the UAC as a faculty member, he served as a data scientist at the Sorenson Impact Center, a think tank implementing and developing strategy for impact finance and investing. In there, he led the development of business intelligence systems by creating data dashboards that can automate and visualize big data analysis. Also, he has been involved in a variety of projects designed to enhance scientific and data-driven decision making for the profit and non-profit businesses. One of his most recent research projects with Gates Foundation was creating data dashboards that can automatically collect, clean, analyze, visualize, model, and predict trends in the higher education of the US, helping decision makers and general public to gain data-driven insights. Academically, he has focused on the computational and statistical methods to analyze and solve social problems, processing large-sized socio-economic data, and published multiple papers to the journals using advanced statistical analysis methods.
