Evan J. Benoit received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Utah in 2020 and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in 2023. His focus of study is in electromagnetics and transmission lines. He also received a B.S. degree in nuclear engineering and technology from Excelsior College in 2015. Prior to attending the University of Utah in 2015, he was a submarine nuclear field electrician’s mate in the US Navy. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Utah Asia Campus in Incheon, South Korea, where he teaches Physics I and II as well as undergraduate ECE courses. When not in the classroom, he enjoys long-distance bikepacking trips and making pottery.

Fatemeh Mahalian

Dr. Fatemeh Koohestan Mahalian received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Utah, and her research interests are in spiking neural networks and machine learning. She is currently an assistant professor (Lecturer) with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the University of Utah Asia Campus and has received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards of the ECE department and the College of Engineering. Before going to the U.S., she received her B.Eng. degree in Electronic Information Engineering in Beijing, and while being in China, she studied the Chinese language and East Asian cultures. Fatemeh loves to study different cultures and has lived and worked in 5 countries (South Korea, the U.S., China, Turkey, and Iran) and 17 cities. Apart from her background in teaching, engineering, and languages, Dr. Mahalian has also experience in business, multinational collaborations, and entrepreneurship.
