Dear UAC community,
We are closely monitoring the political news in South Korea.
What happened?
Late last night South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared a state of martial law. Promptly following his declaration, 190 lawmakers in South Korea unanimously voted to block Yoon’s declaration, and martial law troops were immediately withdrawn from the parliament building. We are now aware that President Yoon has lifted the martial law order.
Is our campus impacted?
At this time there is no action required by our community beyond everyday safety behaviors.
We understand the concern these events may cause and can assure you that our highest priority is the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. We will make timely decisions that reflect this commitment and will keep our Utah Asia Campus community informed with updates as the situation evolves.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The events overnight drew many protestors. As a reminder, participation in protests by non-Korean-citizens may result in deportation and loss of visa status.
