Bio

Ashton Avila is storyteller with a BA in Film Media/minor Gender and Women's Studies from the University of Rhode Island's Harrington School of Communication and Media as well as an MFA in Film Production with an emphasis in Directing from top film school Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Ashton has spent the past decade working in development and productions in Los Angeles's entertainment industry from projects ranging from low budget indie to large scale studio films and TV shows. She's received mentorship from some of Hollywood's greats including David O. Russell, David S. Ward, Martha Coolidge and Colleen Camp. In addition to her work as a writer and director, Ashton has become passionate about education over the last five years while teaching both production and critical studies courses at multiple universities. She is excited to bring her background of work in the entertainment field and her passion for education to inspire students to pursue their dreams as storytellers at University of Utah's Asia Campus.
