Dr. Jaeil Shin from the Department of Pediatrics, Yonsei University College of Medicine, held a guest lecture on May 13, 2025. Dr. Shin’s lecture was part one of a two-part lecture series hosted by the Department of Psychology that aimed to explore the role of meta-research in the medical scientific field and psychology.

 

The lecture gave a general overview of what is happening in the current scientific field and the replication standards to follow. Dr. Shin also referenced several of his own research articles to provide realistic examples. He illustrated meta-research as “research on research,” which enhances the overall quality of research. Additionally, the importance of collaborating with research institutions was highlighted to strengthen the research guidelines and prevent any acts of misconduct.

 

The central message focused on increasing the credibility of research. This lecture was particularly helpful for undergraduate students who are currently conducting research and plan to pursue careers in academia.
