UAC Expands Global Reach with Largest-Ever Freshman Class and Growing Parental Engagement

The University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC) kicked off the Spring 2025 semester with its largest-ever freshman orientation, marking a significant milestone in the university’s journey toward global education excellence. Held at the Incheon Global Campus from February 10 to 13, the event welcomed over 300 freshmen and parents—setting a new record for parental attendance and underscoring growing enthusiasm for UAC’s unique academic offerings.

Why Students and Parents Are Choosing UAC

For many families, UAC represents the best of both worlds: an American education delivered within the familiarity of Korea. Parents cited various reasons for choosing UAC, including academic rigor, international career opportunities, and seamless transitions to the University of Utah’s home campus in Salt Lake City.

Seung-soo Hong, a Film & Media Arts freshman, discovered UAC during ‘Experience the UAC Day,’ where he participated in hands-on activities that deepened his passion for filmmaking. His family appreciated the university’s emphasis on practical experience, which they saw as essential for a career in the industry.

Chae-young Lee, a freshman in the UAC Games program, with her parents at the Spring 2025 Orientation.

Chae-young Lee, now enrolled in the newly introduced Games program, was drawn to UAC’s strong ranking in game development. Her family, already familiar with the university’s reputation, saw the new major as an exciting opportunity. Studying in a global environment while remaining in Korea provided an added advantage.

For Ashley Im, also in the Games program, the flexibility to start her American education in Korea before transitioning to the Salt Lake City campus was a key factor. Her family valued the ability to adapt gradually to an international academic environment without the immediate pressures of moving abroad.

Meanwhile, Damin Kang, a Communication major, found UAC while exploring options for an American education that didn’t require an immediate move overseas. Discovering that UAC was the only university at Incheon Global Campus offering her major made the decision even clearer.

What Parents Are Most Excited About

Beyond academics, families appreciate that UAC allows students to immerse themselves in an international learning environment without the need for an immediate overseas move. This gradual transition helps students adapt more smoothly to the American education system, laying a strong foundation for success when they transfer to the home campus.

Film & Media Arts students are particularly excited about the chance to collaborate on global projects, working with peers from different backgrounds to create films and gain hands-on experience. Parents see this exposure as invaluable for building early industry connections.

Looking Ahead: Preparing for a Global Future

As demand for internationally recognized education grows in Korea, UAC continues to expand its offerings and strengthen its commitment to student success. Chief Administrative Officer Gregory Hill welcomed the incoming class, emphasizing the university’s dedication to fostering future global leaders. Following UAC’s 10th anniversary last year, the university remains committed to both quantitative and qualitative growth.

For prospective students and parents, those who have already embarked on the UAC journey encourage keeping an open mind. Many see UAC as more than just an academic institution—it’s a gateway to global opportunities. With the best aspects of both Korea and the U.S. combined, UAC continues to solidify its position as a premier destination for students seeking an international education.
