COMM Day at the University of Utah Asia Campus gave Communication students the chance to hear from alumni, graduate students, and professionals about what careers in communication can actually look like after graduation. Throughout the day, students could attend presentations, ask questions during networking sessions, and hear different perspectives about working in fields like PR, marketing, journalism, and business. The event also gave students a chance to connect with people who were once in the same position and learn more about possible career paths after college.
The event took place in the U104 lobby and included presentations, networking sessions, alumni speakers, and graduate student panels. Students also had the opportunity to enjoy food and activities while talking with alumni and professionals working in different industries.

One of the featured speakers was Sanghwan Kweon, founder of FEEL BIZ.CON and former CEO of Hyosung TNS North America. His presentation focused on leadership, career growth, and working globally.
Students also participated in speed networking sessions with Communication alumni and seniors. During these sessions, students could ask questions about internships, graduate school, journalism, PR, advertising agencies, and how to make the most out of their college experiences.

Another major part of the event was the graduate student panel featuring Utah Asia Campus graduate students and faculty. The panel discussed topics such as the difference between undergraduate and graduate school, networking opportunities, research, and balancing school with professional life. Graduate students also talked about how communication is such a broad field that can connect to many different industries, including film, public health, business, sports, and politics.
One of the most encouraging parts of the panel was hearing that it is okay not to have everything figured out yet. Several graduate students shared that even now, they are still exploring different interests and career goals.
Personally, one of the most interesting parts of COMM Day was hearing how different everyone’s career paths were. It was reassuring to see that there is no single “correct” path after graduation and that communication can open doors to many different opportunities.

Events like COMM Day are especially helpful for students because they connect classroom learning to real experiences and careers. Being able to hear directly from alumni, graduate students, and professionals makes future career paths feel a little less intimidating and a lot more realistic.
