A Sea of Red Takes Over the Ballpark: U Asia Campus Celebrates Annual Baseball Day

The stands at Incheon SSG Landers Field turned red as hundreds of University of Utah Asia Campus students, faculty, staff, and community members came together for one of the campus’s most anticipated traditions—Baseball Day.

Held during the recent SSG Landers vs. LG Twins game, the annual event brought more than 400 participants together to experience the excitement of Korean professional baseball and celebrate the vibrant community that makes U Asia Campus unique.

Red Jerseys, Loud Cheers, and Unforgettable Energy

From the moment students arrived at the stadium, the stands were buzzing with excitement. Dressed in matching red U Asia Campus jerseys, participants filled the stands with school spirit, laughter, and anticipation.

As the game began, the crowd quickly joined in Korea’s famous baseball cheering culture. Students waved cheering sticks, sang team songs, and followed energetic chants throughout the game. For many international students, it was their first experience witnessing the passion and excitement that make Korean baseball games so unique.

Adding to the fun was Swoop, the University of Utah mascot, who greeted students, posed for photos, and helped energize the crowd throughout the evening.

More Than a Baseball Game

Since 2022, Baseball Day has been one of U Asia Campus’s signature annual events, designed to help international students and faculty experience Korean culture while building meaningful connections within the local community.

For many attendees, the event offered an opportunity to step away from coursework, spend time with friends, and create lasting memories together.

“During my first visit to Korea as an exchange student, I fell in love with both Korean culture and the strong sense of community at U Asia Campus,” said Lillianna Martinescu, a Communication major. “That experience inspired me to return and pursue my degree here.”

Throughout the evening, students from around the world shared in the excitement of the game, while local residents joined them in celebrating one of Korea’s most beloved sports traditions.

Building Community Through Culture

According to Gregory Hill, Chief Administrative Officer of the University of Utah Asia Campus, Baseball Day represents more than just a night at the ballpark.

“Baseball Day is one of our signature community events that brings together students, faculty, staff, and local residents,” Hill said. “We will continue expanding opportunities for international students to experience Korean culture and engage with the local community.”

As cheers echoed through the stadium and a sea of red filled the stands, Baseball Day once again demonstrated the power of sports to bring people together. For one memorable evening, students from various backgrounds united through a shared experience—creating connections, celebrating culture, and strengthening the U Asia Campus community.
